I f Johnny Cash wasn't already the Man in Black, Rich Upjohn definitely would be. This tall, skinny rider from the old school — always with spiked hair (jet-black, most of the time) and clad in black jeans and shirt — has quite a history in the New England flatland scene. After some time away, Spike is back and riding as hard as ever.

Don't think for a minute that this is some old-timer trying to relive his glory days, embarrassing himself doing Nourie handstands and 360 bunnyhops. And don't let his General Osborn Pro with coaster brake and working SpinTech (take a close look at his bike in the cross-footed undertaker photo) fool you: his riding skills and style are as impressive as they ever were — living proof that it's the rider that matters, not the bike. And if that weren't enough, he's a hell of a nice guy...just don't refer to him as a "BMXer" since he hasn't roosted a berm in quite some time.
