Nigel Knucklehead The Allstonians
« Do you have a new album in the works?
This is a trick answer. Yes. But we also have a CD ready for release in April. Big D again...we are coming out on their label, Fork-In-Hand Records. I think it will be called Bottom's Up — not sure. Eight new songs from just about everybody. Steve and I took on the production so we finally — and this is no cut at the other past co-producers — have the sound me are looking for. Some trad sounding stuff, some pop stuff, some Sean Connery. We feel this is the best stuff we've done since Go You!
Where is your favorite place to play?
Easy: Europe.
There's a theory that the closer The Allstonians play to Boston, the better the show is. Is there any truth to this?
Busted. What a load of crap. Who started this theory? In fact, while losing members, the shows have steadily improved as we always seem to get better players when one of the unsettled, shall we say, players leaves. This applies to shows at home and away.

Ask our Bar Harbor, ME friends if we slack off. Perhaps the shows seem more relaxed because we haven't driven 200 to 300 miles to be on time for a show or we didn't stay at a hotel drinking until 4:00 am the night before.

Who are some of your favorite bands to have played with?
Skatalites. Toots and the Maytalls. The Led Zeppelin cover band in Worcester. Whiskey Dick and the Monotones. The Clash. Les Brown and his Band of Renown.
If you could reunite a band that isn't together any more (because they broke up or because a member died), which band would that be?
Personally again, Charlie Parker (saxophone) or Thelonius Monk (piano). Madness — oh, they already are back together.
Is there a better city than Boston?
"We don't have those totally shitfaced shows much anymore. I miss them..."
Better, no...but different, yes. I would love to live in Dublin or Amsterdam for a while. Boston has that old world feel to it. And I love the snobbiness, probably because I hate the fake friendliness of some places I've been. However, don't tell a Bostonian that we are no longer the Hub of the Universe — you could cause a serious shock to his sense of reality.
What do you like to do more: play music or drink?
Ha, who has to choose? We drink while we play. I do apologize again, but we don't have those totally shitfaced shows much anymore. I miss them but we actually started having more respect for the music, and the hangovers get worse as you go along you know.

We also have no other hard drinking buddies like we used to have. Mephiskapheles, Skoidats and Let's go Bowling to name a few. Bands are generally pussies when it comes to drinking now-a-days (no offense intended towards the ladies with that comment). Really, we drink to excess after the shows now. That's because we are mostly a bunch of lonely musicians. Oh, no, that's just me.
