Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

Put simply, this is the best game ever; it's difficult to find anything wrong with it. It's fun and challenging and easy to control, the levels are big with lots to skate (plus hidden areas), the game is fast and smooth and looks great, and the soundtrack is decent (though there's too much metal crap). About the only bad thing is that it's terribly addicting — a quick 10 minute game turns into several hours without even trying.

You probably already know how this game works: you skate different levels completing different tasks and winning contests in order to advance the game. You earn money to buy skills, special tricks and and equipment. Winning gold medals in all competitions unlocks a video of that skater you can watch.

There's not much that needs to be said about this game — it somehow completely blew away it's predecessor (which, before this, was probably considered the best game by many). Secret levels, secret characters, and cheats (all listed in the FAQ) are incentives that keep you playing. And if you get bored with the pre-made levels, you can build your own place to skate with the Park Editor, as well as create your own skater.

If you don't already have this game, don't get it unless you don't mind getting addicted and have a lot of spare time to lose...
